Location & Nearby Attractions
We are located midway up the Eastern side of the Island. Just 10 minutes south of Eli Creek and 20mins north of Eurong. The perfect location for getting out and and about to the Island’s abundance of attractions.
Eli Creek
Just a 10-minute drive from your accommodation.
Eli Creek, Fraser Islands largest freshwater creek. Up to four million litres of clear, fresh water runs into the ocean every hour. Eli Creek is a safe and popular picnic and swimming spot, with a boardwalk that follows the creek inland through banksia and pandanus and access to public amenities. Swimming or floating down the swiftly flowing creek from the bridge at the far end of the boardwalk is an invigorating experience and one that you will want to do over and over.
Lake Mackenzie
Approximately 1.5 hrs (depending on beach and track conditions) drive from your accommodation.
The simply amazing beauty of Lake McKenzie makes it arguably the most visited natural site on the island. It is a ‘perched’ lake, which means it contains only rainwater, no groundwater, is not fed by streams and does not flow to the ocean. The sand and organic matter at the base of the lake form an impervious layer, preventing rainwater from draining away.
The sand here is pure, white silica and is not only beautiful to look at and feels beautifully soft to walk on but is also great for cleaning jewellery. The sand acts as a filter, giving the water its amazing clarity and helping to make the water so pure it can support very little life. The blues and greens of the lake are endlessly fascinating and it’s well worth getting up early to look across it in the soft light of dawn.
There are great hikers camping facilities here and toilets and cold showers nearby.
Maheno Shipwreck
Located about 20 mins north of your accommodation (approx 10 mins past Eli Ck), the Maheno, the most famous of the Fraser Island wrecks, washed ashore just north of Happy Valley on 75 Mile Beach during a cyclone in 1935. Once a well-known trans-Tasman liner, today the hull now lies about 10km north of Happy Valley. The Maheno is a great piece of Australian history and is a must see for those visiting Fraser Island (K’gari).
Lake Wabby
Located approximately 15mins from your accommodation lies the entrance to the 45 minute walk to Lake Wabby. is a unique spot because it’s both a window and barrage lake. It’s also the perfect spot to pull out the camera and document the giant sand dune that borders its deep green waters. This dune is slowly moving into the lake and in centuries time will completely cover those green waters
Woralie Creek
Located approximately an hour and a half north along the beach, then west to the other side of the island, from your accommodation lies the entrance to the simply beautiful Woralie Creek.
Beautiful, calm and serene with stark white sand.
Central Station
Approximately an hour and a bit (depending on beach and track conditions). Originally established as a forestry camp when there was logging on Fraser Island (K’gari), Central Station offers a picnic area and educational display surrounding the early development of the island and its abundant flora and fauna. An amazing boardwalk winds through lush rainforest around crystal clear Wanggoolba Creek, giving you a chance to see some of the world’s largest ferns and experience the serenity of this beautiful place.
The Cathedrals
Located approximately 30 minutes north of your accommodation, the Cathedrals offer a stunning array of coloured sand cliffs. The spectacular phenomenon is a stunning array of colour, with sands of red, brown, yellow and orange all mixed together. The unique sand cliffs have been sculpted by the wind and rain blowing in off the Pacific.
Indian Head
Approximately one hour north of your accommodation along the beach, Indian Head is a coastal headland providing incredible views on the eastern side of the island. An awesome spot for fishing. The north side of Indian head is a great location to set up for a day of fishing, relaxing and time wasting….simply beautiful.
Champagne Pools
Approximately just over an hour north of your accommodation along the beach, the naturally formed rock pools are one of the Island’s most visited hot spots. At low tide you’ll find calm pools and at high tide waves crash over nearby rocks filling these pools with frothy bubbles, just like a glass of champagne!
With amenities and boardwalk facilities with incorporated lookouts, you’ll find your visit here comfortable and easy to linger.
Other places and attractions to visit and do:
Orchid Beach – Driftwood bar for a nice cooling ale!
